Inside Crystal River Issue 44 thumbnail collage: Inverness tax rate cut, waterway cleanup, lake vegetation spraying, a 9/11 school tribute, and a mosquito control facility tour

Inside Crystal River, Issue #44
September 14, 2026

Good morning, Crystal River! Inverness City Council votes Tuesday on a lower property tax rate of 7.460 mills, the sixth millage reduction in nine years, alongside a budget that cuts operating expenditures more than 37% from last year.

Elsewhere in the county, volunteers have hauled more than 160 tons of trash out of our waterways over the decades, and today we're looking at why those boats spraying vegetation on area lakes aren't the problem they might look like.

We're also honoring the students and staff behind Citrus County's latest 9/11 tribute, and rounding up a few easy ways to get out this week, from a stitching club to a plant swap to a mosquito control facility tour.
